Medical Filing Cabinets

Medical filing cabinets are amongst the most common types of metal or wooden file cabinets used today. They are also different than your typical cabinet because of the number of files that have to be maintained and how quickly they need to be accessed. Furthermore, they are not used in just hospital environments. The medical filing cabinet is used in virtually every medical environment.

There are just shelves that the nurse or doctor walks up to, pulls the file that they want, and then they go about their business with the patient. Some of these cabinets may have cabinets on them and the cabinets may lock for when everyone leaves the office for the day and doesn't need to access the cabinet.

If you want drawers, the most common style with drawers is the lateral style rather than the vertical style. The drawers are wider, but they can fit more files within and, in many cases, they are deep enough to allow each file to stand straight up as it should. The files are filed left to right rather than front to back. Sometimes, the lateral style may be shorter, but in the case of medical file cabinets, they can have more than two or three drawers. They can have anywhere from four to six for larger models.

You can choose from different materials as well. Not only do you have access to metal, the most common material, but you have access to wood as well. Many medical offices opt for the look of wood because they like the feeling of comfort that it brings. It is a very warm material and one that makes patients feel welcome. Although patients are not going to be coming near the files, they can, in many cases, see the medical filing cabinets from where they stand.

Security

The security of the files within each medical filing cabinet tends to be a concern for some. Although many offices are fine with having an open filing cabinet or two, some are not that comfortable. That's when they opt for locks. Again, you can have the cabinet style that you close and lock up for the day or you can have the drawer models of filing cabinets that allow you to lock one or more of the drawers.

Files can be passed amongst several people waiting on a patient before they make their ways back to their respective cabinets. Because of this, it is very important that you are as organized as possible, especially when dealing with medical records that contain current information about the health of patients, the medications they are taking, and any other relevant information.

So when you want to make sure that all of your patient information is protected, medical filing cabinets can be a great asset to your office. You can never have too many as long as you have the space. You also have plenty of materials to choose from with different levels of security and protection for the documents inside. When dealing with the health records of individuals, you can never be too careful because you never know when a lost record or missing information could be disastrous to someone's health.
