Legal File Cabinets

Legal file cabinets are for those files that contain legal-size paper rather than letter-size. In other words, it is not out of the question to have a drawer width of about 15" or longer so that the width of the file can be accommodated. As for the depth, it can vary based on the type of cabinets you are investing in.

It is important that depth varies. First of all, you may not have room for office or home file cabinets that are 28 inches deep from front to back, but you may be able to accommodate them at 26 inches deep. Having a cabinet that protrudes out too far can result in a hazard. Paper size

Letter size paper is 8 ½ inches by 11 inches. Legal paper is 8 ½ inches by 14 inches. The width stays the same, but the length changes. So if you have seen a deed, divorce papers, contracts, or another type of document, you know that you are dealing with this type of paper. You can also see how the length of the paper could cause an issue within letter-size file cabinets.

There are folders that accommodate larger documents. They are long just like the paper is. This prevents you from having to fold the bottom half or top half of the document pages to fit within letter-size file cabinets. You can open up the folder and automatically look at what you need to look at rather than having to wrestle with paper.
